Dynamic Migration and Imperfect Information

Felix Iglhaut (LSE)

Thursday 15 May 2025 11:00 - 12:00

SAL 1.04, 1st Floor Conference Room, Sir Arthur Lewis Building, LSE, 32 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3PH

About this event

This project connects advances in modelling choices under imperfect information with research on the spatial distribution of economic activity and in particular the role of dynamic migration decisions. Several decades of research have focused on information frictions leading to market imperfections. However, embedding the hypothesis that agents in a location are less or not at all informed about other locations in a micro-founded spatial model remains a challenging problem. One observation consistent with this idea is the well-documented fact of limited mobility, captured through low migration rates, migration over often very short distances and a high incidence of return migration to any previous place of living. This research explores imperfect information as a complementary explanation to the already established hypothesis on local ties.

Participants are expected to adhere to the CEP Events Code of Conduct.
