Between 30% and 50% of individuals sentenced to prison are re-incarcerated in the two years after their release. Andres Barrios-Fernandez and Jorge Garcia-Hombrados examine links between church openings in Chile and re-incarceration rates and find that local institutions could provide a support network that helps former inmates cope and find work.
