Research by Marco Manacorda, Alan Manning and Jonathan Wadsworth finds that the main labour market impact of increased immigration to the UK is felt by previous immigrants.
Their study finds that newly arrived migrants disproportionately bear the cost of further migration in terms of lower wages. The effect of increased skilled immigration on the wages of native-born workers is negligible.
