Biography

Gianmarco Daniele is Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Milan, and Executive Director of the CLEAN Unit on the economics of crime at Bocconi University. He is also a Research Affiliate at CEPR.

Current areas of research include:

• Economics of crime: Organized crime; Corruption; Mafia infiltration; Prisons and recidivism; Illegal markets and violence.
• Political economics: Institutions and local politics; Democratic accountability; Political behavior; State legitimacy.
• Development economics: State capacity; Local development; Institutional weakness; Criminal influence on economic outcomes.
