Biography
Lachi Singh is a PhD candidate in the Department of Economics at LSE. Originally from India, she holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from Miranda House, University of Delhi, and an MA in International and Development Economics from Yale University, where she also served as a pre-doctoral fellow at the Tobin Center for Economic Policy. Her research lies at the intersection of labor and development economics, with a focus on the informal sector in developing economies. Lachi's work examines how inclusive urban planning and infrastructure investments can reduce market inefficiencies and improve economic and welfare outcomes for informal workers. She is also engaged in research on green technology adoption in developing countries.
Current areas of research include:
- Street vendor preferences and urban planning – Understanding how informal vendors value legal rights, infrastructure, and relocation policies in Indian cities
- Climate adaptation and food systems – Investigating how street vendors experience and adapt to climate-related challenges, particularly food loss and waste
- Green technology adoption in developing economies – Examining electric vehicle uptake patterns, policy effectiveness, and barriers to adoption in India's transport sector
