Biography

Javad Shamsi is an Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance. He received his PhD in Economics from LSE in 2025. He works across academic, policy, and industry domains. In his academic research, he applies a wide range of empirical methods, drawing on techniques from machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and web scraping to investigate real-world issues across diverse topics. He is currently examining how digital technologies influence competition, both between and within platforms.

Current areas of research include:

  • Labour/Urban: investigating the impact of the expansion of food delivery platforms on the economy
  • Political Economy: studying the political economy effects of immigration
