Biography
Thomas Monk is a PhD Candidate in Economics at the LSE, supervised by Professor Alan Manning & Professor John Van Reenen. His interests lie within labour economics, focussing on technological change and the labour market with application towards inequality. Further, he has a strong interest in automating the digitisation of historical data, and the corresponding big data and machine learning techniques. At the CEP he is working with Professor Alan Manning on attitudes towards migration across the EU.
Current areas of research include:
- Labour economics: technological change; within-occupation skill changes; inequality
- Applied machine learning techniques: automising the digitisation of historical data; computer vision for historical documents; natural language processing
