Friday 16 September 2022

This event is both online and in person

32L 1.04, 1st Floor Conference Room, LSE, 32 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3PH

The Junior Trade Workshop aims to bring together early-career researchers interested in International Economics. The objective is to promote a supportive community among early-career researchers as well as the chance to receive feedback from more senior colleagues.

The format of the workshop will consist of six presentations, each one followed by a discussion from one or more senior CEP associates. Among those who have already confirmed their attendance at the workshop and their willingness to act as discussants are:
Holger Breinlich, Swati Dhingra, Kalina Manova, John Morrow, Dennis Novy, Thomas Sampson, Daniel Sturm, Catherine Thomas, and Jose Vasquez.

The official workshop program will start on 16 September at 9.30am and end at 5.30pm. There will be a social event immediately after the workshop which all attendees are welcome to attend and a dinner the night before for speakers and discussants.

The workshop is being hosted by the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics and Political Science. We will be providing up to two nights’ accommodation in London and economy-class travel for all presenters. Participation is also encouraged for non-presenters—the workshop provides a great opportunity to meet other junior economists working in international trade. Lunch will be provided for all those attending the workshop. Unfortunately, we will be unable to reimburse travel and accommodation for non-presenters.

Call for papers

We will consider papers from PhD students and Postdocs. We particularly encourage papers from PhD students on the academic job market in January 2023. Submissions co-authored with more senior colleagues are also welcome but preference will generally be given to papers authored by more junior economists.

To submit a paper or extended abstract, please send a PDF with the subject line "Junior Trade Workshop" to juniortradeworkshop[at] Papers should not be published by the time of the workshop.

The deadline for submissions is 26 July. Authors will be notified of the outcome by 15 August.  Successful authors will be expected to present in person at LSE.

The workshop is organised by Josh De Lyon ([at], and Tommaso Sonno (tommaso.sonno[at]
The workshop will follow the NBER Conference Code of Conduct .
