Biography
Dr. Hanna Virtanen is a Chief Research Scientist and Academy Research Fellow at ETLA Economic Research, Helsinki, Finland, and a Senior Research Fellow at Tampere University and the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Tax Systems Research (FIT). She is also an Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics, a Research Fellow at IZA, and a co-editor of Kansantaloudellinen aikakauskirja (KAK), a Finnish-language journal published by the Finnish Economic Association. In addition, she serves as a member of the Task Force on the Education Evaluation System appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture in Finland

- Family formation: effects of education and urbanization
- Social worlds: education, social connections and polarization
- Vocational education: returns and underlying mechanisms
