Almudena Sevilla made CBE in New Year’s honours

Congratulations to Almudena Sevilla, professor of economics and public policy in LSE’s Department of Social Policy, and associate of the Centre for Economic Performance who has been recognised in the New Year's Honours List 2025.

Professor Sevilla has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for her services to economics and to women in economics.

Professor Sevilla is known for her work in gender economics research and is also the founding chair of the Royal Economic Society’s UK in Women Economics Network, the LSE Women in Social and Public Policy Research Hub and the current president of the Society of the Economics of the Household. She is also a member of the CEP women’s steering group

Commenting on the award, Professor Sevilla told LSE news: “Receiving the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to Economics and to Women in Economics is a profound honour. This recognition highlights the importance of our collective efforts in deepening our understanding of how gender inequalities impact the economy and the economics discipline itself.”

Before her current roles at LSE, Professor Sevilla held academic positions at University College London, Queen Mary University, the University of Oxford, and the University of Essex Institute for Social and Economic Research. She has also worked as an economic policy analyst for the Congressional Budget Office in Washington DC.
