CEP NEWS:
Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt win the BBVA Foundation's 12th Frontiers of Knowledge Award

1 April 2020

Congratulations to Professor Philippe Aghion, an associate of the Centre for Economic Performance, who has been recognised for his "fundamental contribution to the study of innovation, technical change and competition policy" along with long-term collaborator Professor Peter Howitt, of Brown University, USA.

The BBVA Foundation has given its 12th Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Economics, Finance and Management to Professor Aghion and Professor Howitt jointly, for their work in "developing an economic growth theory based on the innovation that emerges from the process of creative destruction."

The committee said the two economists "have revived, developed in the framework of modern economic theory and validated empirically Schumpeter’s idea that productivity growth at the macroeconomic level stems from a process of creative destruction."
