About this event

This study examines the extent to which firm-level demand shocks pass through to worker outcomes across countries. We propose a matched difference-in-differences design that does not condition on workers separating from their employer, relating sudden drops and surges in firm sales to workers? earnings, employment, and reallocation probabilities. Preliminary results indicate higher pass-throughs in Southern European labor markets than in Northern Europe. The main difference appears to be that Northern labor markets absorb separating workers more effectively than Southern ones. The estimates suggest that the pass-through is broadly symmetric for negative and positive shocks.
