Between December 1994 and March 1999, Mexico, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Russia and Brazil experienced major financial crises associated with massive recessions and extreme movements of exchange rates. The effects of these crises were felt in other emerging market economies and at one point seemed to be threatening the stability of the USA's financial markets.
These 3 lectures will provide an overview of the crises and discuss the reform of the international financial system, focusing on the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
- Lecture 1: The crises - a brief history, mainly as seen from the IMF
- Lecture 2: Reforming the IMF
- Lecture 3: Reforming the international financial system
Participants are expected to adhere to the CEP Events Code of Conduct.
