Intergenerational mobility, an issue at the forefront of social policy, will be the subject of an important one-day conference at the London School of Economics on June 23.
Organised by the Centre for Longitudinal Studies and the Centre for the Economics of Education, the conference will showcase the latest research in this area by international experts in the field:
Some of the key policy questions to be examined by the speakers will be:
- To what extent are unemployment and worklessness transmitted across generations?
- How are mobility across generations and cross-sectional income inequality related?
- Has social mobility changed over the last thirty years?
- How can parental behaviour influence children’s outcomes?
- What can the UK learn from other countries that enjoy greater social mobility?
The academic papers will be complemented by a policy roundtable discussion at the end of the day to assess what has been learned.
