About this event

In this paper, I use over three decades of de identified Australian tax returns to examine internal migration between adolescence and adulthood. I match around 96% of my sample to a neighbourhood-level location at age 15 and 26, based on universal parent-child links for parents' location during childhood. Over 60% of young Australians move less than 20km between age 15 and 26. Young adults from high-income families are more likely to relocate and to do so to regions offering more economic opportunity. By age 30, the most disadvantaged regions have the lowest out-migration rates. This paper is at an early-stage and feedback on potential directions is very welcomed.

Participants are expected to adhere to the CEP Events Code of Conduct.
