The Edge Singapore:
Is minimum wage for Singapore?
2 November 2018
Alan Manning estimates that a minimum wage set at 50% of the median earnings will not result in big job losses. Manning's work had direct impact on the design of the UK National Minimum Wage in 1999, and some initial impact on the introduction of the minimum wage in Hong Kong in 2011.
"Many of the problems [Singapore is] facing - such as rising inequality and problems like living standards for the poor - are problems other countries face as well. And they have dealt with the problem by having a minimum wage."
