In 2007 UNICEF wrote a report on children in the world’s richest 21 countries. Britain and US came bottom. Children in the EU were markedly happier. A Good Childhood by Richard Layard and Judy Dunn, examined this and other negative evidence and concluded that instability, inequality, and excessive individualism make for miserable children.
