GB: inflation rate unchanged at 1.7% in September (ONS)

16 October 2019

Dennis Novy, professor of economics at the University of Warwick, points out that the UK experienced a surge in inflation in 2016 after the Brexit referendum, which had drastically slumped the pound by around 10%, which resulted in higher prices in the following months.

Since then, the British currency, which was trading Wednesday around 1.27 dollar and 86.45 pence for one euro, remains very volatile but evolves however in a more restricted interval.

"The pound did not collapse like in 2016," says Novy.
