Biography

Jeongkyung is a PhD Economics candidate in the Department of Economics. His primary research interests include labour economics, urban economics and economic history. Before joining the programme, he worked as a predoctoral research assistant to Oriana Bandiera and Robin Burgess on the LSE's South Korea "growth miracle" project. Jeongkyung holds both an MSc and a BSc in Economics from Sogang University in South Korea.

Current areas of research include:

• Spatial inequality of intergenerational mobility: prestigious secondary schools; neighbourhood effects; residential sorting.
• Elite persistence: dynamics of elite capture of bureaucracy; elite gatekeeping and transmission; medieval South Korea (i.e., Joseon Dynasty).
• Economic history of South Korea: human-capital side of structural transformation; interplay of market integration and traditional rural societies.
