Juan Alvarez Vilanova is completing his MSc in Local Economic Development at LSE and is a Research Assistant at the Centre for Economic Performance. His research interests include the local and regional economic impacts of transport infrastructures, particularly high-speed rail, and the way in which labour-market and welfare policies affect low-income households. He is working with Prof Guy Michaels on a project to investigate the relationship between sea level rise and development of coastal flood-plains. Prior to his studies, Juan worked for three years as a senior analyst for Policy in Practice, a London-based welfare policy consultancy and think-tank.
