Biography

Dr Laura Jaitman is an economist interested in international economics, development economics, and the economics of crime. She is the World Bank Group Special Representative to the United Nations. She is also Research Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance (London School of Economics). She has been Head of International Affairs, State Secretary, at the Ministry of the Treasury of Argentina until 2019. In this role she was responsible for the representation of Argentina in international economic fora, and for international relations at the Treasury. She joined the Treasury in 2017 as G20 Finance Deputy to lead the Finance Track under the Argentine G20 Presidency. Previously she was an Economist at the Research Department of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and has worked for J-PAL, and as consultant for the World Bank and the IDB on the evaluation of public policies in Latin America and the Caribbean. Laura holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University College London, UK. Her work was published in international peer reviewed journals such as the Economic Journal, and the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, among others, and featured in international media.
