This event marked the launch of David Clark and Richard Layard’s new book, Thrive, which argues that mental health problems are pervasive. They have massive social impacts and huge economic costs. They can be effectively treated by evidence-based psychological therapies, but these are not widely available. They should be.

David M. Clark is professor of experimental psychology at the University of Oxford and a leading clinical psychologist. His work particularly focuses on understanding and treating anxiety disorders.

Richard Layard is emeritus professor of economics at LSE and was founder-director of its Centre for Economic Performance. He is the author of the best-seller Happiness and a member of the House of Lords.

Andrew Marr is a journalist, broadcaster and author. He hosts the BBC1 programme The Andrew Marr Show and BBC Radio 4’s Start the Week.
