How the UK's housing system compares to the rest of the world - from renting to house prices

CEP researchers Christian Hilber and Paul Cheshire compare the decline in the UK's home ownership rate, from 70 per cent in 2004 to 64 per cent in recent years, to other countries around the world - UK house prices have been rising at a higher rate than most other countries in the past 50 years. Homeownership is simply no longer affordable to many young and lower income households.
