The impact of the new economy

The need for research on the impact of the internet on union organising is being addressed in two ways:

A survey of the use of the internet by British workers for employment-related issues. Research so far suggests that the internet could fundamentally change the way unions operate, providing unions with the potential to develop individual representation and customised services.

A study of a local labour market dominated by new economy employment; of interest given that unions have tended to be absent from this sector.
