Queen's Anniversary Prize
The Centre has won one of this year's Queen's Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education. It's the first time one of these prizes has been given for work in economics.
The Prizes are part of the national honours system and are given by The Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister. They were started in 1994 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Queen's accession and have been given every second year. The citation recognises the CEP as "a centre of national and international excellence in the application of economic theory and rigorous empirical analysis to issues of employment, productivity, education and international trade." It pays tribute to the Centre's " significant impact on government policy in the UK and more widely."
The formal award ceremony took place February 2003.
Richard Layard, director of the CEP 1990-2003, said: "We are all delighted that our contribution to research and teaching has been recognised in this way."
