7. Educational mismatch

Since the expansion of higher education in the 1970s, the supply of high-skilled workers has increased substantially in the OECD. Although technological change demands a highly educated workforce, concern has been raised whether all workers can fully utilize their skills or hold positions for which less education would suffice. The literature on educational mismatch focuses on the incidence, duration and wage effects of overeducation and undereducation. The aim of this project is to provide evidence on cross-country differences in the incidence and wage effects of educational mismatch using comparative data.
