2. Internal labour market and segmentationThe internal labour markets and long-term jobs have not so much disappeared, as they become 'transformed' in many European countries. We wish to explore, through ESES data, how far 'transformation' of internal labour markets is associated with a rising of the qualifications required for jobs classified at different skill levels. This can be tackled by comparing workers’ educational levels and job grades and their pattern of job mobility. The comparison of European countries and - hopefully Japan - to this respect could show how the interaction between labour institutions and society create a different kind of labour market segmentation. This issue will be dealt with by several statistical tools aiming at the test of the segmentation theory. PI: Hiroatsu Nohara |
