general information
The CEP studies the determinants of economic performance at the level of the company, the nation and the global economy by focusing on the major links between globalisation, technology and institutions (above all the educational system and the labour market) and their impact on productivity, inequality, employment and stability.
There are five programmes:
- Education and Skills (directed by Prof. Steve Machin)
- Labour Markets (Prof. Alan Manning)
- Globalisation (Prof. Tony Venables)
- Innovation and Productivity (Prof. John van Reenen)
- Technology and Growth (Prof. Chris Pissarides)
Each programme runs a series of related projects addressing key issues, set out under the Programme of Work 2000-2005. [Full doc in pdf]
Associated with the above thematic programmes are self-standing programmes of work funded by outside sponsors, including the
- Pay Inequalities and Economic Performance (PIEP), with support from the European Commission and Eurostat,
- Centre for the Economics of Education (CEE), funded by the Department for Education and Skills,
- the Future of Unions Programme, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, and
- the Skills for All Programme, focusing on post-16 education and training and the new modern Apprenticeship, funded by the Esmeé Fairbairn Foundation.
