Economic Growth and Environmental Consequences

Rather than postulating that "all growth is good", we recognise the tradeoffs involved between basic productivity growth and other dimensions of human wellbeing. We will build up an international environmental practices database and link this to detailed firm and environmental outcome data to address questions such as: What is the environmental performance of well-managed firms? How hard is the trade-off between a firm’s financial performance and its environmental "friendliness"? What are firms' incentives to adopt environmental innovations as a function of regulatory and firm-specific circumstances?
